Wormer for my horse
needs it more often.Do not diagnois yourself.
equimax is a good brand I use on my mare-unfortunly she had swollen ankles with tapeworm plus9don't ask my why-but since then I have stayed away from it)
There are two main dewormers that should be rotated during the year.
Ivermectin- which kills worms such as strongyles,bots,and pin worms.
Praziquantel - kills tapeworms,bots
with daily wormer I belive you do not have to paste worm-because you are continuesly protecting against the worms.A good brand is Strongid C . but as others have stated-talk to the owners they are the ones who should treat their horse.If he is 14 years old that means he is a older horse and over dosing him can affect him alot worse,senior horses have a more sensitive system.
This is easy, buy good ones from the local tack shop or feed store! Worm it every 3 months. remember, you get what you pay for! Stay away from the discount store brands, and you'll be fine! Ask the owners what they use, and when!
YOU should not have even thought this out far enough to ask this question! YOU are LEASING this horse and it is NOT your place to go behind the owners and do what ever you feel you should or could do.
Ask the owners if they will consider a new worming routine if you pay the additional money... BUT DO NOT OVER STEP BOUNDARIES LIKE YOU ARE THINKING OF DOING! Then, if they agree, talk to this horses vet and use his suggested deworming schedule for this horse and the part of the country/world you live in. Simple as that!
