Would I be able to fit on this horse or would he be too big for me2007-11-24 21:23:29

Hi there, so I recently found a WP pleasure/Hunt gelding that I fell in LOVE with, but one problem, he's 16.1hh and I'm only 5'2, do you think he'd be to big? Or would he fit? (I'm 14 and still growing. Btw)

Answers:

You are only 14. Most likely you will keep growing, so having a bigger horse isn't a problem... as long as you can handle him and are comfotable riding him. The biggest reasons not to buy a bigger horse are if your legs are not long enough to wrap around the horse's barrel. If you are like most teenagers, you probably have longer legs... so it wouldn't be a problem.

I will be honest and say that if you show in an equitation class in Hunter, the judges do take into account the size of the horse and rider. Judges like to see a well matched pair. They are supposed to focus on skills, but often they are swayed by how things look as well.

I definitely wouldn't avoid buying a great horse for fear of losing points though. If he is the right horse, you'll make a good pair anyway, and a good judge will see your skills and wonderful partnership.

i dont think it really matters...
I dont think thats too big at all. My best friend is 5'1 and her horse is 16 hh. She has no problems. I think whats more important is whether or not you can handle the horse. So as long as his temperament matches your ability, you should be cool.
It will be a stretch to mount, but that is why they created mounting blocks. The good news is you know you will never outgrow him, size-wise! You will look fine on him - he's not THAT big, and you aren't overly short. Get him.
There is no problem with that height for you. You may have a bit of trouble mounting but there are mounting blocks to help you out. Also, on the quarter horse circuit (and most other shows) they like to see the bigger horses, if you were ever to do AQHA this horse's height will be a major benefit to you.
Hi, I don't think think size matter. what really matters is what your going to use the horse for. Consider what you would like to do with him. Jump, show, endurance. A tall horse would be fine for this. Barrel racing, penning, roping you may want a smaller horse. Trail riding you want a good sound gentle horse 15 hands or so.
