if you are really wanting to have a unique bond with your horse and are a dedicated person financially as well as time wise, then i have found the bond with an abused horse, that you have helped,is amazing and like nothing else you will ever experience,i'm not talking a horse who has not gotten it's hooves trimmed regullarly,or minor "rescue" things like that i am talking about a horse who has been physically and mentally abused and needs to learn that all humans aren't horrible, once that horse learns to trust you and only you you have a friend for life,i dont know what it is about abused horses but they just seem to be smarter than those who have lived a nice cushy stable life, maybe it is because they had to develop more of a thinking process to survive, but once that horse learns that you are his/her person the bond will never end,the horse will go out of its way to please you and do everything you ask of it,do some research into trick horses or famous horses that seem to be smarter than others you will find most of these were rescued horses,i do rescue i have seen some horrible abuse and after working with these horses they always seem to be all round better horses in the end,it is not difficult to find an abused horse,go to your local horse auction they are everywhere, the horses that people overlook, because they are wild,or injured or horribly thin almost falling over, that is the horse you want if you are looking for a real bond,it takes dedication and patience and cash and an excellent vet but it is sooooo worth it in the end,i have had both mares and geldings it is true that mares do have thier moments and geldings seem to be less moody but as far as a bond with your horse they both bond just the same
I don't know about the bonding, but do know that mares are much better then geldings mare that had baby will take of you like you were their baby!
I would break the horse yourself that way he learned all his training from you. Also, knowing from experience, I would buy a gelding because my friends mare is constantly getting moody.
I'd say a gelding is better. They're easier to train and not as moody as mares. But mares can be pretty sweet ...
