Would You Buy A Horse That Wind Sucked/ Cribbed2007-11-24 21:23:30

I have always said I would never buy a horse that cribbed or wind sucked. When I was looking for my new horse I went to a breeder who bred warmbloods, I was interested in a youngster she had (the woman had 37 horses they were all in really bad shape). When I went in the box with him he was so frightened that I couldn't get near him he was a 4yo &un touched (she called it totaly un spoilt!! lol). So I wasn't interested in that one but there was a beautifall bay in the sand school that caught my eye as soon as I walked into the yard. Before I even got a chance to look at him she said he was a wind sucker, well that would of normally put me off staright away. But as soon as I saw him I knew I had to have him, he was beautifall, had good bone (and boy could you see them!)& he had the most sweetest temperment.

I went back & tried him out a couple of times, had him vetted and the rest was history never looked back.

Would you buy a horse that had either of these vices?

Answers:

If I really got on well with a horse then i wouldnt care what vices he/she had!

I think its great that your horse has cut down on the cribbing without you having to use collars etc! and he is young which is even better! As you know coz you answered my question my horse is 14 and cribs like mad- I wouldnt change him for the world! He is my baby! The only downside I see to a cribbing horse is other people who dont understand cribbing and who choose not to understand it! They can make life very difficult!! My horse has never suffered weight loss, colic or any other problem for that matter- maybe I am lucky like you?? Also his teeth arent that bad- considering he cribs ALL the time they are in good condition- I have them checked regulalry!!
