Would You Buy A Horse That Wind Sucked/ Cribbed2007-11-24 21:23:30

Some people were worried when I brought her back that my other horses would pick up the habit. But I think in general that if your horses are happy and have enough to do, it's unlikely that they'll copy. Certainly, none of my others started anything untowards.

I think sometimes people are too quick to dismiss horses with vices out of turn, without looking at the bigger picture.

Yeah maybe, if everything else was good. They can be cured anyway.

But I would never buy a horse from that woman!

That seems fine to me if you really like him, go for it. Personally i would bye one because wind sucking doesn't really effect the horse in any way. I think its stress and stuff, so if you give him a little TLC it may get better. Good luck : )
yes. I have a mare that does it. She stays a bit thinner than I would like and I have to have her teeth worked on more than usual-but its just a vice I live with. The original owner and I thought that changing her environment (dry sand lot and alone to grass pasture with friends) would help her stop, but nothing did. She does not wear a collar, has feed in front of her 24/7 and really does not have any bad repercussions from cribbing. If you fell in love with this horse-then dont worry about his bad habit. (you probably have one or two yourself-dont we all?)

Congratulations on your new horse! Sheri
