Would You Buy A Horse That Wind Sucked/ Cribbed2007-11-24 21:23:30

Not only this but often these days you would be hardpressed to find an expensive LOOKING (note deep emphasis in looking as this is the problem), equestrian facilities they may have treated the wood they use for their complex or inside the stable. The problem is that the places which have decided to cut corners with the construction of the places where your horse may one day end up (but by the sounds of it probably won't be leaving your care) will save money on the treated pine that is not meant to be used around horses - especially crib biters as it may have toxins that get into their gums may get really bad infections, the theres the small splinters that may get into your horses stomach or worse lungs.

to help prevent him from doing any of the above get him a toy i've seen them around they're like the chew toys for dogs and you hang them up and your horse will be preoccupied with that (hopefully). If you don;t want to do that you could put a carrot or other tastey treat out hanging somwhere. if not pleased by it dip it in molasses and your horse will love you but be careful of his neck by the sounds of his age you shouldn't put it to much that he has to strain other wise he will just resort back to windsucking that is if you want to change it. some people find it a quirk in their horse that they don't mind having to fix wooden stuff round the stables.

but to answer your question would i buy, i would probably as i haven't much railing in the paddock and its sometimes caused by boredom let him out in our paddocks and he would be cured with our other horses playing whos da mare/gelding

i am looking for a pony right now and i am very put of by vices
If it doesnt bother him or you then that's fine, a friend of mine has a 12 year old who can jump the moon, he weaves in his loose box and crib bites and regularly kicks the wheel barrow across the yard, but she loves him and they make a great team!!

Its like writing off a person as a friend because when they laugh they 'snort'!

You can see past that and that's a good thing!
