Would the way someone house looks stop you from buying a horse2007-11-24 21:23:29

Hi all just curious we moved into a farm house that needs lots of work, it's 140 yrs old. Needs new siding looks bad but liveable. Barn is old to but big and stalls are clean. Pastures are good. Some fench needs replaced but it works. Would this stop you from buying even if the animals were in good shape?

Answers:

Nope.. As long as the horse was well taken care of, well fed, in good condition.. It would suggest to me that the animals were more important than impressing the neighbours!

It may mean the the people were more interested in taking care of the horses than themselves. Take everything into consideration.
no, the house has nothing to do with the horse. If you're that concerned, get the vet of your choice, to go with you and look at the horse.( sometimes, people really do spend more time out in the barn !)
If you feel that the horse will have good shelter from the elements-- xtreme hot AND cold weather and rain wont come through, even in a heavy storm then you should go right ahead. I'd make the repairments before I bought a horse though, or at least the big ones-- you should also check and make sure the barn is sound. It may look nice but you should double check for any wear on the support boards and walls, you wouldn't want to risk any collapsions. The boards could have well rotted over the years or been eaten up by termites.
