Would the way someone house looks stop you from buying a horse2007-11-24 21:23:29

However, his barns were pieced together, animals were well taken care of and his expertise spoke for itself in national competitions. That was what I cared about. I expected nicer living arrangements, but it wouldn't stop me from buying a horse from him.

No, not if they had an animal that would work for me. My friend was a jockey and trainer and the house could be on "How Clean Is Your House?" and the barn is very simple, just pipe and cable but she has some great horses.
No, it wouldn't stop me and I have found some wonderful horses in some places I wouldn't expect there to be a horse.

Some people are just, well, I better not use the word here. If they don't see 4 rail fences, fancy sitting areas, indoor arenas, wash racks, game rooms then the horse just isn't worth it and they have made that decision before they even seen the color of the horse. They live their little fantasy lives while real world goes on outside and they don't even know it.

It is commonly known that the horses of true horsemen live better than the people. Just kidding, but really...they will look at the conditions the horses are living in, and the shape they are in first. Once you have them on the property, you can make small talk about how much work this property has been since you recently bought it, and share some of your plans of what you will do. Then they won't think it is you that let it get run down.
Don't judge a book by its cover... things might not be the way they seem. many horsey people are so into caring for their horses (i know personally) that they don't have time to do anything else!
i would buy it
Condition and cleanliness of the property will likely affect the price. If a place looks run down, chances are the horses aren't well cared for either, but an older home or barn that is kept neat and in good working condition shows that the owner cares about their property and horses. I would also be interested in the condition and attitude of the horses. If the horses look well fed, feet trimmed and are friendly, I would know they were getting proper care.
