After this we will have halter horses that are versitile and usefull not just pretty little dolls. Virsitility is what Quarter Horses are all about.
Personally I think the AQHA should pull their heads out of their butts and ban all HYPP horses from registration, just like they ban horses with too much white. If the breeders can't register their horses, they won't be able to sell them for a lot of money and will stop breeding them. One would think the AQHA would worry more about the integrity of the breed rather than worrying if the horse has white socks that are too tall.
Our top broodmare is a granddaughter of Impressive. And she is N/N. Had she been anything else, no I would have not even bought her. BTW, Inmpressive horses have done a lot more in the show ring than just halter. They are also great performance horses. I do not believe in adding to a defective gene pool by breeding a horse that is a carrier. All of the line breeding that went on for a lot of years is finally catching up in the form of HYPP. And there are to many nice N/N horses to risk breeding one that is a carrier or positive. There is more to life than points or trophies that you can not eat.
FYI: AQHA dropped to white rule completely. Your horse can look like a paint and still get AQHA papers. They are just suppose to penalized for "excessive white". This came from some of the big breeders who wanted double and triple registered horses. They also now allow you to register foals from embryo transplants. Again bowing to pressure from big breeders. So do you really think they are going to ban HYPP horses? Nope, they will get sued (just like in the above mentioned cases) and will fold up and not do a thing.
i wouldn't take the chance of breeding any horse from the impressive line because they can pass it on to their offspring. yes their gorgeous horses but you never know when they will have issues. i was riding a horse that was hypp positive and she's a really good horse and luckily she didn't have any real issues and she would probably throw beautiful babies but it's not worth the risk by the way impressive horses aren't just used for halter classes
I would never breed to a N/H or a H/H stud. I made sure when I bought a Impressive mare that she was N/N. I find it very irresponsible for horse owners to breed to any N/H or H/H horses.
