Would you pass up a great horse because its a cribber2007-11-24 21:23:30

His cribbing can be controlled with a collar.

Answers:

While I can't stand cribbing, I wouldn't pass up a really good horse because of it. There's some new research that shows that cribbing may be stopped by a good treatment of antibiotics and Gastroguard. Seems cribbing may not be just for neurotic horses who were removed from their mommas early any more. A lot of them have ulcers!

Also, most cribbers when turned out to pasture seem to stop cribbing. Or at least slow down.

OTOH, if there is another horse of equal quality that fit your needs, and that didn't crib, I would go for it first.

No, we've had great broodmares and runners that are cribbers and it wouldn't stop me from considering them for purchase at all especially if the collar works on them. Rather have that than a weaver because they drive me nuts.
yes, I dont like cribbers. period. I have seen cribbers with collars and they still do it.
never!!!! where I take riding lessons there are like 5 cribbers!!
No, I wouldn't, if the horse is great otherwise. If it can be controlled with a collar, use it, because otherwise you might end up with some deteriorating stalls! But I've seen great horses who cribbed.
Personally I hate a cribber.

The horse would have to be a really really great horse for me to take him.
