Would you pass up a great horse because its a cribber2007-11-24 21:23:30

dont pass up a horse because of cribbing!!

I would. There are plenty of other great horses out there that don't crib. Cribbing is an annoying, nasty habit.

It causes teeth problems, it's destructive, and it often causes conformation issues with the horse's neck - where the muscling comes from bottom up instead of top down.

I've seen 1000 people claim that their horse's cribbing is "controlled by a collar" which is a crock of crap - I have never in my life seen a "controlled" cribber - NEVER. They force a crib with or without the collar - and 9 times out of 10 the collars end up giving them unattractive rubs if it's kept on all the time - which if it isn't, they'll crib even more.

I have never seen a horse that cribs limit itself to cribbing in stalls, too - the cribbers we have at our barn (all brood mares) crib on the fencelines and we've had to muzzle them so their foals don't pick up this habit.

Please - please - there are really a tremendous number of great, if not superior horses out there who do not crib.

no, you can train him not to do that. or there is spcial paint you can buy.
The cribbing could be a mental problem that can take time to fix or it could be a stomach problem that could be a quick fix. You would really need to get to know the horse to fined out. Listen to the horse because they can tell us all allot about how they feel. We just need to listen
In 1974, a group of English breeders made an offer to buy US stakes winner Halo, a son of Hail to Reason out of the mare Cosmah. The offer was accepted, and the English group was ready to take possession of the horse and send him to England to stand at stud.
