Would you pass up a great horse because its a cribber2007-11-24 21:23:30

Then they found out the stallion was a cribber. Claiming that had they known this fact, they would not have bought the horse, they demanded that his owner take him back.

His owner did take him back, and subsequently sold the horse to a syndicate of US breeders.

Halo became leading US sire in 1983 and 1989, sired literally dozens of stakes winners, including Kentucky Derby winners Sonny's Halo and Sunday Silence.

If a horse had everything else I wanted but was a cribber, I'd still buy him in a heartbeat. Good horses are hard to find and cribbing, though a pain in the patootie to deal with, can be worked around.

JMO.

Yes.
No Way if its controlable
Nope...many horses can be controlled with the strap, 24/7 turnout, or a good ulcer treatment. Cribbing also doesn't usually cause any health problems other than worn down teeth if allowed to crib constantly. Cribbers are not necessarily more prone to colic than any other horse.

To the poster talking about mares and "wind-sucking"...that is completely different than cribbing. Usually race mares can build pressure and "suck wind" through their vagina, which can cause infections and discomfort/pain...completely different than cribbing.that's why most fillies/mare are Caslicked(sewn up) when they go into race training.

And, other horses DO NOT "learn" to crib...a horse is either predisposed to crib or not, and if the situation arises where it gets stressed and/or bored enough or develops ulcers it may start to crib. Other than that, they don't just "learn" to do it for the fun of it. Geez, there's been quite a bit of research done on that and people still are not current with the knowledge...rather hanging on to the old myths about cribbers.

dont box them up in a ******* stable then.

they do this out of frustration and bordom so put the horse back where they belong!! in the field!!

thats where mine are and i have a better relationship with thme for it!!
