Maybe he is afriad you are going to get too attached to the horse- and he saw how hurt you were when the other one died. Other than that I really don't know-- maybe he understands what a commitment it is... You have to work for it!

Trouble is tomtay, if you don't put additions to questions, it does clog up the board, and if you start looking at questions from the top, this question makes absolutely no sense on its own. If it was additional details to a previous question then it may make sense.
