It's possible that she just is afraid of or doesn't like snakes - not uncommon. My advice is whenever you bring up the topic to stay calm and polite. Try to see her side of why she doesn't want you to own a snake. If she is absolutely firm about it - suggest maybe a less threatening type of reptile like an iguana, water dragon or leopard gecko. Definitely do your research so you can answer any questions she might have. But hey she just may not like reptiles period and if you can't change that then you'll have to wait until you've got a place on your own. I'm sure there is a pet you can both agree on.

Tell her that you can buy a tank that has a slid in screen and you can put a lock on it so that there is no way for it to get out. You can get theses at petsmart for about $50 and up. it is really worth it.

Most snakes eat mice and rats, so the house would be rodent free if it got out. Snakes are cool except when the are shedding their skin-they get very cranky. The best advice is not to get a highy venomous snake-especially if you are not familiar with that breed.

Snakes won't leave fur all over the furniture, won't bark at the neighbors, and as long as it doesn't live in the mailbox, it won't bite the mailman! I have owned snakes in the past and they make great pets. My children were raised around various reptiles with no ill effects!

well snakes are great pets but i advise you to research on them before you get one and also make sure you really want it first and if its your first one i recommend either a ball python or a corn snake they are great first time snakes and they don't die easily and you just have to get a tank with a screen lid and i would place some books on top of it and the snake wont be able to get out or get a lock one i have pet snakes and other reptiles and there just great I've only lost one once and it was a baby one but i found it the next day. I also recommend not getting any reptiles from the pet stores like pets mart and pet-co i would advise u to get it from a breeder or a trade show and if she really doesn't like snakes and u would really like a reptile i would advise u to get a leopard gecko which i have had a lot of experience with they are very cool geckos and lots of fun and there cute as well
