Iguana Help
My 5yr old Iguana doesnt move very much he just sits in one spot all day he has heat lamps is that normal?
Answers:yes iguanas love to just sit. what is the real problem?
I raised mine from hatchling to 5 years, and then it died of a deficiency. The were signs she was ill though. Shaking, and jitters.
Iguanas, especially big ones, are sort of lazy. So lounging in the heat all day is what they do. Does it eat like normal? If so, it's ok.
Not too uncommon.
Just happy with the spot
not really, he/she should go to the vet.
You haven't provided enough information to really judge .The critical question is whether the iguana's behavior has changed. If he has been active up until now, then become inactive, that's a warning sign that demands an immediate vet visit. If you just got the iguana and have no history to go on, ask the vet when you take the iggy in for his first checkup, which should be almost immediately. Note: iguanas should have a vet checkup at least once, preferably twice, a year, including a calcium/phosphorous ratio blood test; if your vet isn't famliar with this, find a vet who specializes in exotics.
In my experience, though, iguanas are couch potatoes. They sit in their basking area, maybe moving around a few inches to get the precisely right temperature, and watch the world go by. They get up to eat, then go back to basking. This is essentially what they do in the wild, minus the occasional disruption provided by a hungry predator.
