Iguana help
My son's iguana lost part of his tail today I don't know what happened is there anything I should do I'm sure it will grow back with time but I'm worried about the little guy (he's a baby) I did call the 24 hr vet, they don't see iguana's and told me to call another vet in the morning I have to do something for him any ideas, already gave him a bath to clean it and cleaned out the cage
Answers:That is good you cleaned him and the cage. The tail will grow back with in time, but it won't be as long or as nice.. An Iguana can lose it's tail for several reasons. One if he is picked up or grabbed by the tail, and also if he isn't getting the proper vitamins and calcium. I recommend the Rep-Cal vitamin d3 and calcium ( container has pink label). Put it in the food 2 to 3x a week until he gets older.
hope this helps.

You may want to go to this sight for help. Sounds like you've done the right thing so far.
awww I hope he is ok. I don't know the answer;(
it will grow back but just not as long as it was before it lost the small part. there is nothing you can do but just make sure that it won't get infected at the end. just keep giving him a bath to keep him clean and keep his tank clean as well. the cleaner you keep him the faster the tail will be. i own iguanas as well and most of mine did the same thing and when it happens there is nothing you can do to make it grow back at full length. i just kept them very clean and it did grow back some. don't worry about him just make sure that it does not get infgected and have fun with him.
u should clean the wound but it doesnt matter i think all lizards do that
Did you stop the bleeding? If not, use a styptic powder to stop it. If you don't have any, try cornstarch. Rinse with betadine after the bleeding has clotted - do this gently as to not rinse the clot. Apply an antibiotic ointment. Keep it clean and apply the ointment BID. If the tail turns black and soggy or black and flaky, see a vet. If your not sure, he should go to the vet anyway.
good luck.
Your doin the right thing so far and not to worrry it will grow back and keep an eye on it if things start getting worse take it to a vet!
it will grow back.. just clean it, and maybe wrap it with something.
Just keep it clean and keep an eye on it. You can use any sort of topical antibiotic on it (neosporin etc. just not the stuff with pain reliever in it)
