Serious questions for iguana experts.. my iguana has metabolic bone disease. i was told its from lack of uvb rays i have the heat glo light but i'll have to get the day time one too with the uvb rays. question is. i've read and been told when i asked a vet that the iguana needs a serious amount of calcium in the upcoming weeks. from experience what is the best calcium suppliment to use with high dosage and can these bumps and bone diformities actually straight out and regain all movement?

No the bones will never straighten out. The deformities will remain.

The uvb bulb is a flourescent bulb. Brands i use and recomend are either Zoo Med's Reptisun 5.0 or 10.0 or Exo terra Repti-Glo 5.0, 8.0

I dont understand what you mean by heat glo bulb. Iguanas need not only the flourescent lights in the links below, but a circular lamp that has a day light bulb that emits heat and UVA. Its either a white bulb or blue bulb. Night glow bulbs are either black or red to be used at night if it gets too cold in your home.

When i rescued a bearded dragon with mbd i gave him calcium supplementation twice a week with flukers brand calcium powder. Too much calcium can result in hypercalcemia wich is very dangerous. Make sure to feed your iguana greens that are high in calcium such as dandilion greens and flowers, hibiscus leaves and flowers, mustard greens, collard greens, turnip greens, and watercress. Never give lettuce of any kind. It has no nutritional value. Never give spinach and kale because they are high in oxcalates that block the absorbtion of calcium.

Get a good reptile calcium supplement and mix it in with his daily salad (see www.anapsid.org for excellent advice). He may recover but there is still the possibility that he may never grow normally.

I have an iguana, for one obviously make sure that you are feeding him lots of greens that should be the base of the diet..Also Berries such as blueberries, raspeberries etc. have a lot of calcium, hibiscus flowers..
