I woudn't recommend one for a child. Not good for the child or the spider (he could get squashed). If you must get this furry, 8 legged critter, a lot of pet stores sell them. Call around and find out who has them.

they have them in the petshops. they arent that expensive but for a child, I dont think that would make a good pet. I would rather suggest a pet rat or a fish or guinea pig.

Most decent shops that handle exotics will carry them. How old is your grandchild? Believe it or not, tarantula's are fragile and can't be handled roughly. They can very easily be injured or killed by mishandling. This might not be a good pet for a very young child that wants to be really "hands on".
