Is it possible to bring reptiles onto a plane2007-11-24 2:02:00

More specifically, snakes. I have two snakes, and I'm wondering what would happen if I ever had to bring them overseas, etc, or anywhere by plane. If they're not restricted, I would hope they let you bring them with you into the cabin, seeing as they can't regulate their body temperature.

And please, please, please. No "Snakes on a Plane" jokes. It's not funny, trust me. You just think you're being funny.

Answers:

Yes, snakes can go on a plane.. However, I doubt they can go in the cabin. You would probably have to ship them as cargo. Delta airlines has excellent cargo shipping. We use them to ship dozens of reptiles a month.

Now, as far as just shipping them, you may not be able to just pack them up and send them. In order to ship overseas, an import/export license may be required and that can take months and cost several hundred dollars. I am not sure how that works for pets. You can contact the Federal Fish and Wildlife department to see what is needed.

Most airlines will carry them in the cargo hold. These are now often heated so dont need to worry about body heat regulation. Call the airline and ask for advice. I believe it can be expensive to carry them though.
haha. I think it's funny. I'm sure you can put them on just like dogs if they are packaged correctly. I don't get why you would need to bring them overseas though.
yes but with a special document and in the luggage place
yes
i dont think u can.besides, i think it would be better for them to stay home they could get really freaked out
I know that in Canada the main airline has just recently declared that all animals must travel in the cargo hold. Depends on the country.
I would have brought my crested gecko with me if I could have.
Yes, you can, however going abroad creates some problems I think. They may need to be quarantined, and I don't know what legally constitutes "importation." There may be a lot of red tape for that.
I've taken many reptiles onto planes before, 2 boas, 1 iguana, 2 corn snakes, 1 house snake, 2 cobras and a leoprad gecko. I had to get special permission though but it doesn't effect them. It's not striclty legal nowadays though.
yes you can bring snakes on a plane HAHAHA

get it
