My child caught a catipillar How do we take care of it2007-11-24 2:01:38

Teh catipillar is in a screened cage. Does it need water? What do I feed it?

Answers:

Put it in a jar with lots of leaves - preferably from the plant it was found on. Make sure it has plenty of greens until it makes its cocoon, then don't worry about it til spring.

It would be wise to let the poor thing go. Try getting the kid a new pet. Like a fish or a frog or a hamster. Even a cat or dog. But a Caterpillar? To each his own huh?

I think you should just let it go, as said in the website given, catipillars are picky eaters. And if you try to feed it the wrong thing, it wont eat.

really all ya have to do is put some dirt on the bottom of the cage put some leafy sticks in so it can eat and climb and as lonas there's moisture on the leaves or dirt it'll be good! just keep it in temps of 60 - 85 degrees ferenheit!

LOL! Um, well I would just let it go . You eventually will have to when it becomes a butterfly, but put it in your yard, and whenever I had caterpillars, when I had them live in my yard they always returned there and bred. I would let it go and s/he can play with it outside.
