My hatchling Yellow-Bellied turtle hatchling isnt eating anything Please help I dont wnt him to die2007-11-24 2:01:43

When I got him, I bought the Zoo Med:Hatchling Aquatic Turtle Food, and I've had him for about 2 weeks now. I'm really not sure if he REALLY has eaten anything, but I havent seen him once yet. And, wat stinks is, the food dissolves into the water in about an hour after I put it in the tank! ANY TURTLE EXPERTS OUT THERE? P.S.- I also would like to have a website dedicated to Yellow Bellied Turtles. Any1 who can give me both answers. I will vote them for my best answer!:)

Try this site. Its dedicated to the care of yellow-bellied slider turtles. http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/care/cs. Believe it or not, I used to feed mine raw hamburget. They go nuts for it. And sisnce they are omnivorous, it will not hurt them. Just don't give them too much. Good Luck, Cookie

just eat the turtle they make a good stew, instead of using a bone to flavor it like sum do, use the shell

You may not want him to die but nature has way of taking care of itself and this may very will be an example of it. You cannot force something to eat if it has no will to thrive.

Take him to a reptilian specialist. If it has lesions on the shell, it may mean the animal has a liver disease. Depending on how soon you caught it, some calcium/vit d, or a shots may help it feel better.

First of all, you can solve the food dissolving in the water problem by feeding it in a separate tank. When I got my turtle it was a hatchling too and didn't eat for a few weeks after I brought it home. I just kept giving it food and eventually it started eating. You might want to call a herp vet and ask to get a certain answer though.
