how can i tell if my water turtle is a boy or girl 2 are about 2 years old and 1 is 1 is it dangerous to the young one if i put him with the 2 big ones will he stop eating?
Answers:Usually male turtles are larger, have a longer tail, and longer nails than a female turtle. It is generally safe to house turtles together. They are a docile creatures and usually get along just fine. Keep an eye on the turtle when you first introduce them to each other just to be safe.
Here's a good link for breeding: http://www.petturtle.com/breeding.htm.
and one for determining sex: http://happyturtle.ms11.net/sexing.html.
the first answerer is wrong, the male water turtle is ALWAYS
smaller than the female
Sexing small turtles is tough and not usually accurate.
Sharing the tank is fine as long as it is big enough.
They will start breeding at about 4-5 years old.
