I am deathly afraid of snakes. Doesnt matter if they are behind glass or on Tv. The sight of one scares me so bad that I will shake and my hands start to tingle and go numb. When we take the kids to the zoo I can go into the Reptile building but the second I see ANY type of snake my heart races and it is hard for me to breath. My husband has obtained a Pueblan Milksnake that is about 3 feet long he named "sally" and he loves her to death thinks she is beautiful. I know it is non poisonous and nocturnal but when she is out of the cage I am honestly scared for my life and he doesnt understand this. How can I get over my fear without actually having to touch the damn thing or have it near me?

There are a lot of people that are deathly afraid of all types of snakes.

The best way to work with your fear or make it less would be to try and sit as close to your husband when he has the snake out and is holding it. Make sure you tell your husband not to try and put the snake on you, that you are trying to come to grips with your snake phobia. Eventually if you can slowly sit a little closer to your husband eah time he has the snake out, you might be able to go to the next step which is to touch the animal with one finger. Believe me these snakes do feel cold to the touch as they are cold natured so dont let that freak you out. If you are able to touch it with one finger, thats a great start. You can continue each time by touching it a little longer to where you are able to pet the animal. Maby in time you will be able to accept the new addition to your home (the snake), and be able to hold it one day.

Yes seeing a therapist in reference to your snake phobia is a good idea, but if you cannot afford to see one, then this is the only other alternative of trying to get used to the snake on your own and at your own pace.
