Python Shedding2007-11-24 2:01:56

My python is in the first stage of shedding. A few of his scales are sticking up. Well not sticking up but its not tightly overlapping on his skin. Only a few of his scales are like this. Is this from shedding?

Answers:

From your description, the scales that are not lying close to your snake's body could be a sign that he simply rubbed them the wrong way. It's not life threatening and he should be fine.

One of the signs that a snake is shedding its skin is that its eyes get real cloudy or white looking. they are also more aggressive during this time. Maybe this will help you to know if it is really shedding OR has injured itself some way.
yes, soon the eyes will become cloudy and the skin will be shed. Good luck
If you handle the snake very often, they scales have a tendancy to do that. Especially if you hold him in a way to keep him still. He will try to pull away. Look closely at the scales that stick up, is it the normal place that you hold him? Also, the white scales, it's nothing really, it's inbreeding. People who breed snakes have a tendancy to try to keep a desirable "look" to a snake, so they'll breed it with it's own relatives, causing little nuances, such as white scales. Most snakes that are inbred, have a tendancy to get repiratory infections (no one really knows why. You ever hear of the white tigers? They are all inbred, they also all have heart problems. It's natures way of saying "STOP BREEDING WITH YOU SISTER!") To prevent this, make sure he is ALWAYS in a warm environment. Don't let it him soak in water for long periods of time.

Good luck!
