Should I get an iguana

Should I get an iguana2007-11-24 2:02:43

I'm a 21 year old college student living in a house with four guys all around my age. Should I risk getting one? Or just wait until I live on my own?

Answers:

I would say as a reptile owner myself, to wait till you have a place of your own if it means that much to you.

Lizards require special needs with food, water, lighting and heat.

You must be able and willing to care for it properly knowing to get an aquarium large enough to allow for it to grow.

They need live food and fresh water and a tree to climb on which means you need a vented top to your aquarium as well.

He needs the correct amount of heat with a heat lamp and a temperature guage inside the tank to tell you how warm it is.

He also needs equal amounts of light and darkness so he can be awake and asleep..

If you are the kind of person that parties and has loud music or TV, the lizard will not be able to sleep at night.

And he will need his food periodically dusted with vitamins he cannot get in captivity.

I have owned iguanas and bearded dragons with my husband and they need food and water every few days, so you can't plan on a long vacation.
