Should I put a plecostomus in with my turtle(red esred slider)2007-11-24 2:02:44

Is it a good idea or not, anybody know?

I have two turtles, a red ear and a yellow belly. They live in a 20 gal long tank with three plecos and they are like the "Brady bunch." The plecos help me keep the tank clean and the turtles clean too. Everyone is happy as long as you net clean the tank every day or so so the feces doesn't build up and so on. I run a 330gph filter as well. I also feed the turtles and the plecos at the same time. If you do this, which I do recommend, get high quality algae wafers to feed the plecos. The only downfall I've seen is that it makes it much more difficult to clean the tank, like empty it. Then clean it. The fish are more sensitive, harder to capture and move to a different environment then reintroduce to the new environment. It works very well for me. Since I got the plecos, I only have to drain the tank every two months with the filter and daily net cleaning. Good luck, it's a good move.

It will be okay as long as the pleco is bigger than the turtle. My cousin had them living together for years. I think if you put a pleco in that was really small, I could see it getting hurt or killed.

No. Not a good idea at all. If the turtle doesn't doesn't kill it all the water changes will stress it out to a point where it could die. Also the turtle feces will start putting off ammonia which can also kill it. Good filtering is required with it to even attempt. But you can try I won't say it is an absolution that it will kill it but more than likely. But I wouldn't risk it. You can try but don't say I didn't warn you if it dies. It's your money and plecos don't cost too much.

Why sure you can. they'll get along just fine but I would make sure that the fish is larger than the turtle.
