Small white bugs in my Ball Pythons cage

Small white bugs in my Ball Pythons cage2007-11-24 2:02:45

She's been acting strange for about a week now, seeming kind of weak. I dismissed it as needing to be fed as did my mother, but today I opened the cage to spray it down with some warm water to keep the humidity up, and crawling on the bottom of her grape root are small white bugs, they dont seem to be able to fly and they're only on the bottom of the root where its damp.

I looked closer, after taking the root outside and washing it off, and the bottom of her tank seems infested with them. They're crawling everywhere but you have to stare at the bottom of her cage to see them move, and its such small movement.

Could they be from the damp wood, or the light I keep on at night?

Will they harm her, are they? And how do I get rid of them?!

Hun your Ball is sick.you should change all of the substrate ( bedding) and i would strongly recomend a kind called ( Jungle Mix) it is the best and is the best for holding in humidity.it stays moist a little longer..and also go to your local PETCO and ask about Pest strips..put a small one in the cage.it is non-toxic to your snake and will kill any kind of bugs and spiders in your room.good luck and get your snake looked at to make sure it doesn't have any kind of upper respatory infection.

I don't know if they could be harming your snake or not, but I would get rid of them. Clean out her cage really well and replace all her bedding, as well as anything else in her cage that could hide the little bugs. Clean everything else out really well before returning it all to the cage and replacing your snake. I hope she gets better. Snakes are cool.
The little bug's are probley sand flea's , or mites you can sprinkle seven dust in her cage, i had a 21 foot bermeese phython and she use to get the same little bug's, the bugs mostley come from what ever your feeding her, or just from the moister in her cage
these sound like an insect larvae to me. similar to maggots? as soon as passable you should clean the tank get rid of everything in it or soak it in bleach water. put fresh crumbles on the bottom and a clean dish of bottled water. i don't recommend spraying in tank, as is can cause mold and bugs the water dish should be enough moisture. if you think she might be sick raise the temp. a bit up between 90-100 for the day and off at night. this will make her a bit more active. note: only use clean wood and deco she could get scale mites from outdoor wood or leaves.
it is probably lice or mites and both are not good for her. take her out and put her in a seperate area (soak her in warm water if can)and then while she soaks clean her cage with bleach water and change her bedding to news paper then get a spray made for reptile parasites and spray her as often as needed.GOOD LUCK:)
it might have Mites check your wood from the bag sometimes the wood is bad. wash it down with some vinegar and baking soda you should be good..
What you could have are mites. If so, they do carry diseases. It's best to contact a local vet to make certain. But definitely thoroughly clean the cage and everything within immediately. Here's a link that may help.
