What substrate that you would use for cricket that would be easy to clean and find the crcikets. How do you clean a cricket habitat?

Answers:

Egg carton is good to use for your crickets and toilet paper tubes work great also. Their pee is like acid to where if they peed on each other they would die. The egg carton helps absorb it. Then for when they poop use a card of some sort to scoop it. I know all this because I have to get a 1000 crickets every week for my lizards plus I use to work in a reptile store.

Newspaper works well for the substrate, its easy to get and easy to get rid of. Egg cartons as was previously suggested are good because they increase the surface area for the crickets to crawl over and toilet paper/paper towel rolls are good to capture the crickets in during feeding time. all i ever seen being used is egg cartons.. easy to see and throw away when done..

You dont need a substrate at all for crickets. I just keep them in a cricket keeper with a few pieces of egg carton. There's reallly no way to clean out a cricket's area unless you want to risk chasing them around the house. I usually let my stash run low once every month and a half and then I'll clean it out and replenish my stock.
