Tortoise Lighting
Im getting a tortoise in a couple of weeks, but im real, real confused with the lighting thing. Could any people with knowledge in this area please help. I have herd several different things, one was that there should only be 1 light which supplies UVA/UBV and anohter is just 1 light providing UBV and another was a UBV strip light and a normal reptile basking bulb? Help please.

It would depend on the species of tortoise. I have 2 russian tortosies with a heat lamp. They have been doing very well.
Depending on the tort. You will most likely need a UVB bulb (long tubelike bulb) and also a Basking bulb (household bulb).
An excellent site is linked below and some very knowledgeable people on there. I am Boxie Lady on there.
Please visit. You will get lots of help there.
personally i recomend steering away from using light bulbs for heat because in the wrong conditions they can be fatal. i would buy a small heat mat that doesnt need a thermostat and use a low wattage 20 or 40 watt bulb to light the enclosure. some tortoises can be acclimatised to normal room temperature or even be kept in the garden.
Cameron, did we chase you off? Why didn't you just post in the forum?
