Turtle behaviour
I have, in a 50 gallon tank, two turtles. A map turtle and an alligator snapping turtle. Both are small right now. About 4 inches in diameter.
They lived together in the same tank before we got them. For some reason the map turtle keeps on biting the snapping turtles tail and legs.
Why does she do this and how can I stop her?
Answers:Why I have no idea. Maybe she thinks the snapping turtle is invading her territory, or otherwise considers it a threat. Maybe she just does it for fun. At any rate, I doubt you'll have an easy time preventing this behavior so long as they're both in the same tank. If you don't want to get a bigger tank (which may or may not solve the problem), then maybe you should rearrange the current tank. For example, if you made two ponds instead of one, or two basking areas instead of one, the turtles might stick to their own sides instead of fighting.
If nothing you can do short of placing them in separate tanks will prevent the map turtle from attacking the snapping turtle, and if the map turtle is big enough relative to the snapping turtle, it might be a good idea to separate them before the snapping turtle gets seriously injured.
SEparate them before she kills him.
The turtle may be hungry - what are you feeding them? Pet Store turtle food can be supplemented with real food like raw fish or other meat.
She wants some of that turttle poonunty. (lol)
The first thing depends on what you are feeding them? Sometimes, store bought turtle food doesn't work. If that is what your buying then stop and try cooked chicken. If she STILL keeps biting her you need to separate them IMMEDIATELY! You don't want the snapping turtle to die do you? That is what will happen next if you don't do something before it's too late! Hope this helps!
u may be under feeding them and putting them into a feeding frenzy its better to have food floating around so that they can see theres plenty to go around
You can't stop them from that - some are naturally agressive. If you want to to stop it, you'll need to seperate them.
Don't forget that if you insist on keeping them together, your map turtle will die. Snapping turtles are cannibilistic, and will eat your map turtle after a short time.
let them go free in the jungle, where they can roam around freely.
