i dont know were to buy them in south africa. but to own one you need a 36''x18''x18'' tank (aquarium). you will need a heat mat or a spot lamp with a 75 watt lightbulb. you will also need a a rock in there that gets up to 120 degree's,also you will need reptile carpet for a juvinile or sand for a adult,you will also need a hiding place that can get somewhat warm for them at the night time. just for saftey take out insects like crickets at night si they crawl on the lizard and eat holes in its skin.vegtables should be a 25% part of a juvinnile's meal, and 50% of a adults meal. remember that they will always scratch you and could transmit a disease so keep kis habbitat clean and wash your hands before AND after so you dont get his disease as easily (if he has one). some vegtables they like to eat is kale, collard and mustard greens, zuchini, and SHREDDED CARROTS only. before you feed your bearded dragon crickets dust them with calcium dust so that they get there calcium. water they will drink from a shallow dish and lick moisture of there skin so mist them with a bottle every other day. i feed my juvinniles everyday; but adults every other day. they are omnivores and eat live crickets and also some vegtables. they have spiny skin under there throat and when "puffed up" it lokks like a beard thats why there called bearded dragons. they are gentle by nature and will learn townjoy interacting with their pet parents.signs of a healthy bearded dragon are clear, alert eyes, muscular tail, sheds regularly during growth, eats and drinks normally,breathes easy, well formed droppings every 2-3days. things to whatch for, runny droppings or red streaks in their droppings for more than 2 days, eating or drinking less; weight loss, swollen joints, discharge from eyes, nose, or mouth, shedding problems; discolored skin. maintain a nighttime temp of 65-75 degrees farenheight, a daytime temp of 75-85 degrees farenheight, and the basking area 100-120 farenheit.
