Some interesting answers has been given, some stupid ones as well. You didn't say what type of milksnake it is. There are not that many milksnakes that grow big enough to feed larger rats to (Honduran being the only exception that I can think of). Back to your problem, firstly the sluggish feeding response only meens it's used to being fed dead prey, no need to react aggressively. If you want more energy feed him a live mouse every now and then. WARNING please watch the mouse at all times in the snake enclosure, it can hurt the snake. A cheaper alternative to feeding adult mice is to feed rat pinkies and smaller rat fuzzies. You should pick these up alot cheaper (almost half the price) than mice and it's a healthier alternative for the snake. Rats has got a bigger skull and bulkier body. There for ounce for ounce your snake will get more calcium and protein. This is really good for him. You can always feed him cut chicken pieces, but please another word of warning.you have to add calcium supplements. Hope this is of some help to you.

chicks bunnies whatever moves
A nice slice of cheesecake is the perfect dessert following a nice fat juicy mouse.
egg.hardboiled and peeled
If the snake is getting large & is eating many mice, you might move up to larger mammels such as rats.
