What can i use to make our box turtle happy in its home Its indoors inside a large aquarium2007-11-24 2:03:17Answers:

our marginated tortoise lives in a terarium thing, and we make sure to change the bedding fairly frequentyl, we have a little cave thingy from the pet store that he likes to go into, but its light enough that he can push it around when he wants (they like to move things around and decorate their area). the water dish has a little hill that keeps it up high so the bedding stuff doesnt get in the water and make it gross. theres a few colored stones in there that he seems to like to push around, a flat rock that sits right under the heat lamp (the red bulb one) and we have another lamp for "sunlight". doing it that way will keep him warm at night, but its dark so he can sleep. he seems pretty happy, and he likes when he pet him on the head. lol. i dont know if thats normal or not, but he loves it.

Just make sure to keep sunlight or those special lights on him for half of the day. It'll make him sick without it. When I had a box turtle I would let him walk around the grass outside every now and then.

Be shure it has a large enough water dish that it can swim alittle. They aren't good swimers so don't make it deep enogh that it could drown, but most box turtles do like to get in water. Be shure it has light, be shure it has a hide box, and feed it watermellon, slugs and earthworms they love those (you should feed it other stuff to but those are some box turtle favorents)

Ornate or Eastern? That affects the care details.

How big an aquaria? The rule of thumb is 100 square inches per inch of turtle. BIG tanks are a lot more fun than smaller tanks.
