From what i know turtles aren't the type of pets that would want to be cuddled like a cat or dog, they will get stressed, so you must keep your distances. Food (fish, worms, turtle food, and lettuce), a tank with ALOT of space for the turtle, basking lamp, light source, water filter, basking area, maybe a vet, sand & a friend depending on the type of turtle would be needed. These things aren't cheat, so you must know that you can afford them before getting a turtle.

from what i understand. you need to be careful having turtles as a personal pet. You can get salmonella poisoning from turtles.. Hand washing is an absolute must. Everytime ya touch your turtle you need to wash your hands
food shelter rocks maybe sand or dirt and water and a heat light and some plants
Well depending on the size of the turtle is the size of the tank that is needed. I would at least get a 20 gallon long tank with an intank filter. Also make sure that you get gravel and a place for them the get up on and rest. Also you should make sure you get a heat lamp and put it over the spot that is dry. The best turtle food out there right now is turtle bites.
i found mine outside when it was a baby and it was mean. not a snapping turtle but really aggressive so needless to say, there was no playing with this turtle. during the winter i kept it in a glass fish tank with a few inches of water in it and a slope of rocks and gravel high enough for the turtle to get out of the water and sit on the rocks. it was really happy and didn't need anything but daily feedings of reptile sticks and weekly water changings. and during the summer, i put it outside in a little blue kiddie swimming pool set up the same way as the tank. with water and gravel so it could bask or swim. i set it in partial shade so it could get some sun and it loved it. plus it got to eat some bugs that happened to get in with it.
It depends on what kind of turtle you are planning on getting. If you plan on getting an aquatic or semi-aquatic turtle you will need: a tank (glass or acrylic) pebble rocks because turtles looooove to dig, a place where the turtle can be completely out of the water like a "turtle dock", basking lamp, UV lighting is good for the shell or natural sunlight works too, and a water heater to keep the temp. between 70-80 degrees. It is also a good idea to get 1-2 Chinese sucker fish to keep the tank from getting over run with algae. The Chinese sucker fish are better to get than the regular sucker fish because they stay fairly small. Good luck!
a lot of patience my friend and H2O.
