What do i feed my snapping turtle2007-11-24 2:03:23

He was eating wardleys reptile food but now he seems un interested in this and will only eat shrimp or raw burger every few days and i know he needs more vitamins than this to stay healthy, it is hibernating time also for this type of turtle, so i suspect he might be slowing down some..

Answers:

Hibernation urges are strong this time of year. Boost temps a bit and increase the lighting cycle to help overcome the urge.

Live fish food is often recommended for snappers- LAY OFF THE HAMBURGER! This IS NOT healthy for ANY reptile! (Too fatty, bad calcium/phosphorous ratio). Aim for feeder fish, worms, crustaceans, etc.

Also, try a better quality pelleted fish food. Cost equals quality and cheap foods use less nutritious ingrediants and more fillers than the good foods offer.

I use to feed mine table scraps, herman got pretty big, so we ate him. he liked lettuce and tomatoe sandwiches. he tried to eat my granpaws finger, but we ate him before he could eat any of us.

your fingers you getem too close thier neck can strech quite aways .caught one round 1970 ,2 ft + across almost 3 ! thing was MEAN ! seen them eat pound leaves .my tourtise likes mulberry leaves and letuce ,fruit .nothing spicey . careful that thing !
