What is a good place to buy a turtle
The pet shops I have been to sell little turtles for over $100 and that seems steep. I have seen places online that sell them for a fraction of that. Is it safe to buy one online?
Answers:Unless you know and trust the on-line or mail-order vendor, it is not safe to buy any turtle you cannot watch to make sure it is healthy.
On-line places should also offer some sort of guarantee for live shipping, and offer fair prices.
If you have a local herpetological society or reptile club, they may sponsor or know about breeder shows, reptile expos, animals for rescue or adoption, or other places to buy locally.
Before you buy ANY turtle, do your homework. Turtles are NOT easy pets. It can easily take over $100 to provide the right habitat even for a small turtle. You are committing yourself to the total care- water, heat, light, diet, etc. of an animal that can live 30 years or more.
Nearest pet store or shelter!
