What is a good wattage for2007-11-24 2:03:30

my geko's light blew out, and I went and bought a new bulb, except I think I bought the wrong wattage. If i remember correctly it was 250 watts. but I only bought a 50 watt bulb. I guess I can use it for tonight and return it tomorrow. Crapper! So my question is how much wattage should a 15 gallon tank use. I got it from the auction place for 15 dollars, which I guess they go for like $150 in the stores, so maybe it's alittle bigger then 15 gallons.

Answers:

Depends on the type of gecko..

If you have a desert-living species like a leopard gecko, they like it pretty warm so a 60-100-120 watt bulb may be good. If you've got a tropical species like leaf tails, they like it warm, but not hot..60-75 watt most likely. If you've got a cooler weather species like a crested, more than likely no bulb is needed. Your best bet is to use a themometer and measure the temp from the bulb you bought. If the temp is good for the type of gecko you've got, there ya go. If not, try another wattage. Good luck and happy herping!

we have both four leopard geckos and one tokay gecko, every pet store we have talked to suggest a 75-100 watt light bulb, blue or red for night and a uv bulb for day.
75 watt
