What is the best type of snake to own as a pet2007-11-24 2:03:36

I'm looking for a snake that is nice sized and not too small but also harmless.

Answers:

go with one of the corn snakes, easy keepers and so many beautiful colors

you wanna be future steve irwin !!
A King Snake.
A Black Mamba
Any dead one is real harmless.
dont you have one hu hu raise it it will spit venom
I think you have the answer right there, nice sized, harmless, I'd add in passive. By the time you finish researching how to care for a snake you will have a good idea of exactly what you want.
a reticulated python.

just kidding.

a corn snake is honestly your best bet :)

my husband has a ballpathon and he is now almost 5 foot long he is fun to watch ,we just experienced his first sheding it was pretty neet to watch and its wild to see him eat ,we rescued him from a house that had a drug bust and they were gonna kill him .So we took him I was gonna take him to a pet store and just give him away because im not so crazy about a snake in my house but my husband begged to keep him so we have had him 6 months .we can get him out of his tank and my hubby will hold him ,but we dont let him loose at all ,we still fear him alittle and they can since fear .he is so pretty tho .they are smarter than people think .easy to care for and right now our pet store is selling babys for 25 dollars .get yah one .good luck .
By far the most docile snake you can get that is 4 feet and under is a Rosy Boa. I've had one and they are very tame and I personally have not heard of anyone getting bit by one as long as it was not abused. I caught mine in the High desart area of So, Cal. He was about 2 feet long and when I recognized it I just reached down slowly and picked it up. I have owned lots of snakes. I now have a Red tailed Boa that is quite tame. He is a baby at 5 feet long. He will reach 9 to eleven feet when fully grown. Another large docile snake is the Burmese Albino Python. They are very tame but reach, (I believe) about 15 feet. Large snakes will eat your pets (small dogs or cats) if you don't keep them well fed. A fed snake is a happy snake. I have also owned a few king snakes. They do not make very good pets because they are high strung, move too fast, and have a tendency to bite if startled. Corn snakes also but to a lesser degree. Ball pythons are fairly tame but always hungry as they are short but very fat. Is it your first or second snake? Get the rosey boa..
Tree Snake.. Harmless
you should start with semipoison snakes , just to learn .
