What kind of snake is 3 feet long, very slender and tan in color with black stripe down the back2007-11-24 2:03:41

Walking in the woods with my two dogs and cat and the cat came upon a snake in the bushes. My cat kept after it and it finally went up a tree. I live in Arizona and couldn't find what kind of snake it was on the internet. It's not a gopher and not a gartner. Anyway I went back to see if my cat had gotten it and she had. It was playing dead so I picked it up with a stick and put it in a safe place where the cat couldn't get it again. Does anyone have any idea as to what it might be? It was pencil thin and very long. Actually kind of pretty. Only has one stripe down it's back. Very skinny tail.

I live in Arizona and it sounds like one I came across awhile back which had been run over by a car. I also looked in a book I have called Snakes and other Reptiles in the Southwest. I'm sure it is a Western Patchnose.
