What should I do with a turtle that runs away2007-11-24 2:03:46

we have a pond and a turtle that runs away. the only other close amount of water is our neighbor's fountain. and he never goes there. what should I do about him?

Take away his tv time and cut his allowance in half.

You could try putting a fence around the pond. Turtles are not very good at getting out of fences; they can't climb or dig very well at all.

Whatever you do, DON'T tie him to a certain place with a string. That can easily injure him.

i think if you get your turtle a new sexy turtle friend/ he or she would stay home..

ankle bracelet.or a GPS device inserted into his shell so you know where he is at all time..or you get some of that rabbit fence stuff..turtles can't jump..or climb..unless they are crazy..if your turtle is crazy maybe its best he did escape

I had this same problem when I first had sliders. You have to build a fence. Make it at least 2x as tall as the turtle is long. Turtles are surprisingly good climbers. I dont care for chicken wire (poor looking IMO). I just used some garden latice work you can buy at lowes.

Put a bell around his neck so at least you'll know where he is as he goes jogging off.
