What type of turtle has red on its neck2007-11-24 2:03:54
I live in central PA.
I was walking through the woods in Perry County and came across a turtle that had a fire red neck on the sides.
What type of turtle is this.
Answers:Probably either a slider or a painted one.
A redneck turtle. You usually can only find them below the Mason-Dixon line.
Could be a red slider..i used to have one of those.till my husband put him outside on the balcony and he was abducted by a squirrel..he was just a baby. There are a couple others with red also.
Only a hillbilly would ask a redneck question like that.
That type of turtle is a red-eared slider. They're water turtles, so there had to be a creek nearby.
The Red-ear slider. A common southern species, it is found all over the palce now since people have been releasing them from being pets since the early 60's.
You can learn more about it at http://www.redearslider.com
A good general purpose site that might be of interest is http://www.tortoise.org and you can identify other animals by doing a Google search for "[animal type] [your state]".
Searching for 'turtle pennsylvania' turned up http://www.westol.com/~towhee/reptiles.h. along with several other interesting sites.
