Whats the most colorful snake to get as a pet Non-venemous of course2007-11-24 2:04:37

I want it to be docile, easy-going. But something exotic, colorful. Anyone have any ideas? Not the 200 pound ones either. Thanks .

The San Francisco Garter snake is one of the most colourful and exotic looking snakes that I know of. But since they are an endangered species, it is probably illegal to own one.

Well, I was gonna say a reticulated python, but they can get quite large. My personal favorite is an emerald green tree boa. They really are quite beautiful. The green scales on their back give off this gorgeous blue-green iridescence. But, they generally don't do well in captivity.

There are a lot of non-venomous snakes in the US that only get about 5-6 feet in length, we have a Milk Snake, (Lampropeltis triangulum) that is very docile and colorful, it looks like a coral snake, but isn't venomous. There are several species of Milk Snakes that are harmless and pretty. The Western Coachwhip (Masticophis Flagellum testaceus) is another gorgeous one. Look online for non-venomous snakes, then check with a pet shop for availability. I think it's best to find a snake that is found locally in your area because if you decide you are unable to keep it, you can wait until summer and release it back into the wild. Keeping a snake is a long term commitment, and providing the right environment to keep them healthy can be expensive, but snakes are wonderful and worth the effort.
