Why Will My Pond Turtle Not Eat His Feeder Fish
I know I totally spoil my turtle with dry shrimp and crickets. If I slow down on the food, will he eat the feeder fish. The feeder fish are getting too big and if he doesn't eat them..won't they get caught in his throat if he does try to
Answers:Thats exactly it, you've spoiled him. So now it might be hard to get him to eat hs fish.which is actually fine because the crickets, kale, romaine lettace and many other things are much healthier than feeder fish.
He maybe doesnt like how it tastes. I know it sounds funny ,but i have a turtle and it is picky and wont eat certin foods.
Because turtles like pizza!! don't you watch TMNT as a kid?
Or tell his sensei (splinter) that the turtles won't eat their meal and he'll make them do extra ninja exercises!
Mabey hes a vegetarian.lol. try not to spoil him as much & just mabey the fish are too big or have a desease.
MAYBE HE DOESNT LIKE IT
I have two turtles which have been hand-reared and they will not chase their own food either, so my husband takes some feeder fish out of the pond, squishes them (yuk!) and feeds them that way.
We think that they didn't learn to catch their own food as we made it readily available to them, and they didn't have to try.
I agree with some of your other responses that they also like greens - spinach, lettuce -but not iceberg only other varieties, etc.
Ours also eat dried shrimp and turtle pellets available from the pet shop and they love blood worms which you can get fresh or frozen.
