Why does my Bearded Dragon2007-11-24 2:04:52

get really lethargic before he sheds? Is this normal? He hides in his cave and does not even want food. Also he does not like to be touched during this time. It seems like it hurts him when I touch him. Does it hurt or does he just want to be left alone? This has happened a few times so I think it might just be normal but I'm not sure. What can I do to make him more comfortable for the next few days?

Completely normal. Leave him alone. If he has sucessfully shed in the past, don't fix what ain't broke. Just do what worked before.

You will no doubt get advise to mist him (with a spray bottle), don't. They are desert animals who like being dry.

He's fine, leave him alone.

do nothing! they all get like that when they shed. mine hides too. and if you try to feed him he just lays there and looks at me like im stupid no joke. he will cheer up in a few days. just make sure his heat lamp is on and the temp is good and let it pass. once he cheers up treat him with something he really likes to eat.

I spoke with a a pet store owner in town who specilizes in bearded dragons. She said it was perfectly normal for them to do that and she said its also a good idea to let them soak in a few inches of eater. Dragons are great swimmers and on the contrary of "being a desert animal" they love baths.

mine is the complete opposite mine can not stand not being held when he's shedding. I think it's because he's spoiled but, leave him alone and he'll come back out when he's done shedding.
