Besides the obvious problems of obesity, when a snake over eats it is prone to "throwup" it's meal. This can cause an endless cycle of vomiting food & can weaken or even kill a snake eventually.
Boober is right. Some species are also more prone to overeating than others. Best to play it safe.

boober is absolutely right.we have 7 snakes and some will overeat and some will just stop when full. You need to get to know your snake because My brother fed his snake to much and ended up regurgitating it back up. My ball pythons will stop eating and I know they are not full. Sometimes they will eat a ton and sometime they will eat just 1 or 2 and stop.
