i just got an iguana but how can i tell the sex ??

if you flip your iguana over on its back and look between the legs there are lines of femoral poreson the inner thighs if the spots are large its a male also males have 2 bulges at the cloaca females only have one bulge and faint femoral pores

I have Two Iguana's and the best way to tell is take it to a vet. They have a flap of skin at the base of their tail behind the back legs that needs to be spread a part. For your safety and the Iguana's don't try this your self.

Male iguanas are usually a bright bluish green w/ a large pinkish purple dewlap ( A flap of skin below the chin). Females are green with a smaller green dewlap. If you can't tell, you may want to consider asking your vet to check.

you won't know the sex tel their like close to a year old. Males will be more colorful, big dewlap.bigger head and large jowls,they turn orange during mating season and aggressive,They also have femoral pores on inner thighs that stick out. Other then that wait until their older that will tell you.

Male ig: on the inside of their thighs from about 2-3 years of age you can begin to tell. They have little dots called femoral pores. Males are waxy and stick out some.
