iguana problem2007-11-24 2:00:36

from just behind his legs his tail kind of zig zags, it looks deformed and he doesn't whip it anymore like he used to. I'm not sure what is wrong with him.. i don't think its disease, im guessing he hurt himself from running around. or bouncing around in the tank. anyone ever experience this before?

Answers:

Your Iguana may have fractured his tail. While they can drop or lose the lower portion of the tail, the upper portion is more integral to his function. Regardless of how it happened a vet needs to take a look and possibly x-ray to determine the damage. IT may be simple, but surely needs treatment. Is there any change in color on the tail and are there any other signs of deformation on your pet? Your iguana could be suffering from MDB (Metabolic Bone Disease) This makes the boes brittle and easily broken and eventually leads to deformitites all over and then death. Check out this link for more details on the causes and signs of MDB and take the little guy to the vet. It sounds more like he may have just hurt himself somehow but the article is still worth reading as this is one of the major cause of captive iguana death. Hope he fares well soon .;) Care must be taken to firmly restrain the tail when an iguana is picked up and held. A veterinarian can treat soft tissue injuries and splint the fractured tail.

Sounds like an injury take him to a veteranarian
