im buying a trionyx turtle i was wondering what to feed them2007-11-24 2:00:39

i was just wondering how and what to feed them and how to generally look after them, what they like and dislike that sort of thing

Trionyx or soft shelled turtle a re completley aquatic and only come ashore to lay their eggs in the dry season. They are carnivourus and will eat almost any flesh. If you are getting a small one to start feed on frozen blood worm or lance fish.

If it is quite large (8" to 10") you can feed it on fish and chicken filleted and cleaned., Take care as these are not handable turtles, its neck is as long as its back and it will bite at the first opportunity. Also you will need some form of heat in the aquarium and a good filter. These have to well anchored because the turtle will dig and move them about all the time. I have one that is over 20 years old and eats every thing I give him.
