im getting a leopard gecko in 4 days any one know how to prepare a 20 tank2007-11-24 2:00:40

yes i have done my research I know what they eat etc.

Answers:

I recomend putting all the heating elements at one end of the tank, that way there is a really warm basking spot and cooler areas on the other end for him to go to if he wants.

I think that's been the best advise I've recieved about reptile care.

Oh, I like outdoor carpet cut to size on the tank floor instead of sand or any other substrate.

Sometimes you can get remnants cheaply at carpet stores. Astro turf is good too.

NO SAND! The danger of impaction is far too great!

Honestly, if you've done research you would know what to do. Just install the UTH with a thermostat, put the paper towels down, and arrange the "furniture". A hide for each side (warm and cool side) along with a humid hide on the warm side. The water dish on the cool side. And the mealworm dish anywheres.

a gravel bottom with leafy, vine type limbs with heavier branches running all through it. a big cave type rock or a wooden dome type house to hide under is nice, my leopard gecko really liked it. also, besides his food and water bowls that look like rocks, a heat lamp with a multi level adjusting switch for different levels of heat works real good. Watta ya think? good luck :)

You could put sand if you want but buy ONLY the T-Rex Bone Aid Calci-Sand it's beneficial if they eat it. Don't buy regular sand,

we have a African fat tail gecko and she like the heating pad on the half of tank and water at the other end, in both places we have flat rocks placed on small rocks where she can go hide or just hang on top and she loves the wavy limb she goes up and just hangs out,,,, you will have a blast with it and good luck
