my bearded dragon hisses at me he wont let me touch him what can i do2007-11-24 2:01:32

i just got a baby bearded dragon, it is only about 7 inches long. once i had put it in its now cage it doesnt like me. i try to feed it food and it wont eat. now if i even put my hand in the cage he makes a quite hissing sound out of his mouth. how can i make him like me?

you need to handle him more often in order for him to be used to being handled. they were never handled when they werein the pet store that you bought him from..pet stores never handle them, they just put them in the tanks and then they sell them. just be patient and it will all work in the end. just keep offering him the food and he will eat. i have 2 of them and they did the same thing and it took them about 2 weeks before they started the eat. good luck.

He needs to be handled more if he bites you just take it and make sure he know that you aren't a threat

At first they bluster quite a bit. Usually they are bluffing, reach in and grab him. Gently, of course. Hold him gently for a minute, then let him go.

Try smaller food. If it's too big, they won't go for it. Wax worms and meal worms are good. Sometimes they will go for freeze dried crickets. It sounds like they are eating Potato Chips.
